The reach of Kevin Mills and his journey has gone beyond Canada and stretched all the way to Hollywood.

Last week, movie stars Kate Winslet and Edward Norton donated to Mills’ Pedaling Possibilities campaign.

“We have new friends,” said Mills in a social media post. “Kate Winslet and Edward Norton both donated to Pedaling Possibilities and are supporting the trip. Thank you so much to them. It’s pretty amazing.”

“It’s incredible, thank you so much,” added friend and cycling partner Nikki Davenport.

Mills, who sustained a spinal cord injury in 2009, is using a hand cycle to pedal his way across the country to raise awareness of the importance of recreational activity in the disabled community and to identify an accessible biking route across Canada.

The Newmarket resident's more than 7,000 kilometre trek began in Newfoundland and will end in Victoria, British Columbia.

In his most recent Facebook update, Mills and his team were cycling through Dinosaur Provincial Park in Alberta, also known as the Alberta Badlands.

“The landscape was insane,” Mills wrote on Facebook. “They had a couple accessible trails I got (to) explore, and dinosaur fossils that I could see. It was a really neat experience.”

The ride began in May, and Mills made a pitstop in his hometown in July where Newmarket Mayor John Taylor presented him with the key to the city, which Taylor said has only been given out once before.

With September being Spinal Cord Injury awareness month, Mills plans to be providing spinal cord injury facts and tips all month on social media.
