Newmarket concert cancelled due to lightning forecast

The TD Music Series show featuring The Blushing Brides has been cancelled on Thursday, Aug. 25

Newmarket's TD Music Series show for tonight, Aug. 25, has been cancelled due to forecasted lightning.

The show at Riverwalk Commons was to feature The Blushing Brides, a tribue to The Rolling Stones, with the opening act local performer Glenn Marais and the Mojo Train.

However, with lightning in the forecast throughout the day and into the evening, the Town of Newmarket announced this afternoon that the concert has been cancelled.

"We apologize for the inconvenience and thank everyone for their continued support for this event. We hope to see everyone next at the next concert on Thursday, Sept. 1," the town said online.

At about 3 p.m. Environment Canada issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Newmarket. According to the town, the storm "may produce strong wind gusts and heavy rain."

The outdoor concert series will resume next week, weather permitting, on Thursday, Sept. 1. The headliner that night will be Sounds of Motown, playing the greatest songs of the Motown era. The opening act is local pianist David Toms. This is set to be the last concert in the summer series.
