Mystic Fair, CultureLive among events getting Georgina grants

Total of $34,250 provided for 13 events; town accepting applications for second intake until May 31

Thirteen events in Georgina will receive funding this year through the town's economic, culture and community betterment grants program, totalling more than $34,000.

The internal grant review team met in March to review the grant applications that are aimed at fostering community development, and enhancing the festivals and events in Georgina, according to a Town of Georgina news release.

“We are proud to support these events and initiatives that contribute to fostering community spirit in Georgina, as well as contributing to our town’s history, traditions and diversity,” said Mayor Margaret Quirk. “We recognize the valued contributions being provided through businesses, community organizations and residents. We are committed to working with everyone who invests and provides programs, services, events or projects to our growing community.”

The grants, which are a vital part of Georgina’s commitment to community enrichment, are designed to provide financial support for events, programs, or initiatives that promote economic growth, celebrate local culture, and contribute to community betterment.

 The following organizations will receive grants:

  • Seedy Saturday
  • Jason McCoy Music Show
  • York Region Food Network Affordable Fresh Food Market
  • Pefferlaw Association of Ratepayers: PAR Picnic, Easter Event and Christmas Event
  • Georgina Centre for Arts and CultureLive and Silent Auction
  • Discover Georgina Show
  • Georgina Spring Fling and Georgina Marathon
  • Boys A/AA Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations Field Lacrosse Festival
  • Free Spirit Fest
  • Music in the Streets
  • Military Day
  • Georgina Studio Tour
  • Georgina Mystic Fair

The total budget allocated for the 2024 grant program is $45,000. With the approvals granted, a total of $34,250 has been allocated, leaving $10,750 available for the processing of the next stage of grant applications open until May 31, 2024. Interested groups are encouraged to submit their proposals at georgina.ca/grants.
