Another round of rapid test kit distribution is scheduled to take place at Upper Canada Mall Dec. 29 to 31, depending on availability of the kits.

The take-home COVID-19 tests will be handed out outside, on the patio of the former Arthur's Landing restaurant, which is on the Yonge Street side of the Newmarket mall.

The distribution is run by the Ontario Ministry of Health, as one of their many pop-up initiatives to get tests into the hands of Ontarians.

"Throughout the rest of December to mid-January, the holiday pop-ups will continue to distribute take-home rapid antigen test kits, subject to supply. The Ontario.ca/holidaytesting website will be updated on a regular basis to reflect these additional sites upon confirmation by individual locations," said Christian Hasse, media relations for the ministry.

The ministry could not confirm how many kits would be available at this specific site.

"Ontario has a limited supply of rapid tests and every single test the province has received from the federal government is on its way out the door to thousands of workplaces, hospitals, home and community care settings, long-term care homes, schools and child care centres on top of the many pop-up sites across the province," Hasse said.

The Ministry of Health also called on the federal government to make more rapid tests available for residents.

"While we were expecting to receive approximately 10 million rapid tests from the federal government this month, millions of tests have been delayed until the new year," they said.

Demand for rapid tests is high.

At a previous distribution pop-up at Upper Canada Mall on Dec. 19 to 21, residents lined up for hours in hopes of getting tests.

Ontario is also distributing tests at select LCBO locations, however stock there also runs out quickly.
