Markham sushi bar charged with public health violations

One food establishment in York Region was charged for a public health violation by York Region inspectors last week.

Syogun Sushi Bar in Markham,  101 - 8261 Woodbine Ave., was charged on Dec. 13 for food premises not being maintained to keep food-handling rooms free from equipment not regularly used and failing to maintain hand washing stations, according to the report for inspections made Dec. 11 to 17 by York Region Community and Health Services, health protection division.  

During the compliance inspection, inspectors noted that the establishment failed to provide adequate number of hand washing stations, failed to ensure facility surfaces were cleaned as necessary, failed to provide adequate protection against the harbouring of pests, and failed to ensure the presence of a certified food handler or supervisor during all hours of operation.

Along with the two charges, food handler education was carried out. A re-inspection will be conducted at a later date.
