A restaurant in Markham and salon and spa in Richmond Hill faced charges laid by York Region Public Health inspectors last week.

Super Chicken at 120 - 30 Gibson Dr. in Markham was inspected three times between Oct. 17 and 23, according to a public health unit report.

At the first inspection on Oct. 18, the restaurant was found not in compliance with maintaining equipment and non-food contact surfaces, general housekeeping, and having a certified food handler on site during operating hours. On-site education was conducted and a re-inspection was issued.

The second inspection was on Oct. 19 and the restaurant was found to be not in compliance with the same items from the previous inspection. Further on-site education was given and Super Chicken was charged for not maintaining the food handling room in sanitary conditions.

A third inspection was carried out Oct. 21 and the restaurant was again found to not have a certified food handler on site at all operating times. More education was completed and a proof of public health sign was posted.

Natural Solutions Hair Salon and Spa at 9350 Yonge St. in Richmond Hill was inspected twice in the last week.

On Oct. 18, the salon was inspected and a number of items were corrected during the inspection. However, it was also found to be not in compliance of notifying public health 14 days prior to offering additional services, informing customers about the risks of invasive services, and keeping records of invasive procedures.

The salon was also charged following that inspection for failing to use disinfectant per the manufacturer's instructions.

A second inspection took place on Oct. 20 and the salon was found to be satisfactory, with no further action required. A proof of public health sign was posted.

Charges are issued under the provincial Health Protection and Promotion Act and are notices with set fines.
