A restaurant on Main Street Newmarket has been charged with several violations following an inspection by York Region Public Health.

A compliance inspection at Sun Star Bar and Grill at 13 Main St. South on Sept. 29 resulted in several charges, including  "mechanical equipment not maintained to provide sufficient chemical solution rinse."

During that inspection, other non-compliance issues noted were:

  • not having equipped and easily accessible handwashing stations
  • not having a constant supply of hot and cold water under pressure
  • not maintaining dishwasher water at the right temperature and sanitizing utensils using a chemical solution at the minimum concentration
  • not cleaning and maintaining non-food contact cleaning surfaces
  • not keeping floors clean and in good repair
  • not ensuring the presence of a certified food handler at all times of operation

This is one of two charges York Region Public Health issued during the reporting period of Monday, Sept. 26 to Sunday, Oct. 2.

On Sept. 27, York Region issued a charge at the Country Style in the Esso station at 5241 Bloomington Rd. in Whitchurch-Stouffville.

It was charged for maintaining "potentially hazardous foods at internal temperature between 4°C and 60°C." Certain foods are meant to be stored at an internal temperature of 4°C or lower.

Charges are provincial offences notice with set fines, issued under the Food Premises Regulation 493/17 of the Health Protection and Promotion Act.
