Ladies Supper Club wraps up year with gift to Newmarket Food Pantry

The club, which holds events throughout the year as a way for women to create friendships, donated more than $1,800 in cash, 450 pounds of food

The Ladies Supper Club marked another year of gatherings and friendship with a holiday event that collected more than $1,800 and 450 pounds of food for the Newmarket Food Pantry.

"I grew up in a poor household, I know what it's like not to have lunch," said organizer Patricia Hawke, who thanked the 60 members of the thriving club that attended the fourth annual event at Castle John's restaurant on Yonge Streete in Newmarket Dec. 10.

A portion of ticket sales went to the local food bank, as well as cash raised through a 50/50 draw and additional donations.

The group has blossomed to about 940 members since first launched by Alexis Gada in 2017, newly arrived to the community herself, as a way for women to make acquaintances and friends outside of business networking through occasional dinner gatherings.

Membership skyrocketed following the pandemic, and continues to grow, to the delight of Gada.

Club members have arranged restaurant events in Newmarket, Aurora, Georgina, East Gwillimbury and Bradford, but also movie, line dancing and paint night gatherings.

You can find out more by visiting the club's Facebook page.
