Roy Matchem of Keswick is adding Europe to his travel plans after winning more than $82,000 in the July 7 Poker Lotto draw.

Roy, a 62-year-old father and grandfather, is looking forward to experiencing the benefits of his windfall.

“It’s an excellent feeling. I love to travel and have my sights set on Europe,” he said.

The industrial electrician went out for lunch one day and decided to pick up some tickets. When he checked his tickets at the store, the machine shut down.

“It took a few minutes for me to realize what I’d won,” he recounted while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up his winnings. “I just thought to myself, ‘Wow.’ The cashier was so excited for me.”

He matched five of five cards to win $77,009.20. He also won $5,000 on the instant portion of his Poker Lotto play, bringing his total winnings to $82,009.20.

He’s been playing Poker Lotto since it was introduced. He’s also a frequent player of Lotto Max and Lotto 6/49. Roy has won some smaller prizes in the past, but this is his largest win to date.

Roy shared the good news with his friends, family, and coworkers.

“Everyone was happy and said I deserved this win,” he smiled.

The winning ticket was purchased at Wellington Mini Mart on Wellington Street in Aurora.
