Kept your child home even though there's no strike? Call your school so they don't report them missing, asks YRP

The strike was averted, but some parents have apparently kept their kids home anyway . . . and it's causing some problems for police

A tentative deal last night between the Canadian Union of Public Emplioyees and school boards averted an education worker strike that would have closed hundreds of schools across the province.

But if you decided to keep your kids home anyway, York Regional Police are asking that you call their school to let them know.

That way, the school won't report your children missing.

"Parents who kept their children home from school in anticipation of a strike are asked to please call the school & report your child absent," reads a tweet this morning from YRP. "We have a large number of calls from schools reporting children missing."

In a followup tweet, police have widened their call for assistance: "If you know people who have kids & they kept them home - tell them to call the school."
