York Region is seeking feedback from seniors and their caregivers about how to best help them in the years to come.

The region has launched a survey for a new senior strategy and two-year action plan to support York’s seniors at all stages in their life. The online survey runs until Jan. 9.

“York Region’s senior population is growing faster than any other age group,” the region said. “As our communities have continued to grow and change over the past five years, we need your help to renew our plan for seniors.”

The region’s original plan was created in 2016 but is getting an update after five years of use. The current strategy said the system is under pressure, and the region needs to help keep seniors healthy, keep them connected and create age-friendly communities. It suggested actions for expanding prevention programs, integrating services, and developing affordable housing options for seniors.

The region is also hosting two virtual open houses Jan. 5 to discuss the plan, at 11 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.

The survey is open to those 65 and older and their caregivers. It asks questions such as whether caregivers have all the support they need and what supports are helpful. Staff will incorporate the feedback into a report to the regional council June 2022.

“Your feedback and experiences will help us develop a renewed seniors strategy and create a two-year action plan to ensure we continue to meet the needs of York Region seniors now and into the future,” the region said.

You can participate in the survey on the region’s website, which will take about 15 minutes. If you require assistance, you can contact the region to complete the survey over the phone at 1-877-464-9675.

The Jan. 5 open houses are also available for online registration.
