The sky's the limit on June 10 and 11 as the Barrie Airshow returns to the city, much to the delight of many who are expected to line the waterfront for the popular summer event.

The upcoming show — which is returning to Barrie for the first time since the summer of 2019 — will feature the beloved Canadian Forces Snowbirds, the Skyhawks Parachute Team, a CF-18 tactical demonstration, and a Northern Stars Aeroteam.

Barrie Mayor Alex Nuttall says he knows how much the Snowbirds mean to local residents and he can’t wait for the aerobatic team to be back in the skies above the city.

“This is incredibly exciting for those, like myself, who love the jets and military," Nuttall said. "But this is even bigger than that in that we get to showcase the best part of Barrie, which is our beautiful waterfront and Kempenfelt Bay.

“Collaborating with Base Borden, sponsors like Pratt Homes and others who are working together, all hands on deck, to bring what will be the pinnacle of events this summer to downtown Barrie," he added.

Along with the city and sponsor Pratt Homes, the two-day event is being presented in partnership with the Downtown Barrie BIA and County of Simcoe.

Pratt Homes co-owner Heljar Hansen said he was excited not only for residents and visitors, but admittedly for himself, too.

“I am currently training to become a pilot, so this is very exciting for me,” he said. “(Co-owner) Karen and I and the Pratt Homes family are very happy to support this incredible event.

"Barrie has some amazing festivals and events downtown by the water and land, but now also in the air," Hansen added. "It's a great thing to build a bridge between the city and Base Borden.”

Along with the two-day airshow, the weekend will consist of the Downtown Barrie BIA’s first Open Air Dunlop of the season on June 10, a CFB Borden kiddie commando course and static displays, live music and a free screening of Top Gun: Maverick at Meridian Place.
