NEWS RELEASE
SOUTHLAKE REGIONAL HEALTH CENTRE
*************************
On Saturday, Oct. 5, more than 700 guests gathered at the Southlake SHIFT Gala in support of Southlake Regional Health Centre. Together, community members and sponsors raised $1.4 million in support of the most urgent needs at Southlake, including specialized equipment for minimally invasive surgeries.

“It was an exciting night, and wonderful to see people from all of Southlake’s communities coming together to rally behind their hospital,” says Susan Mullin, President and CEO of Southlake Regional Health Centre Foundation. “We are so grateful for the incredible demonstration of generosity, and the shared commitment to making sure that the best equipment and the best care is available right here at Southlake for them and their family, friends, neighbours and colleagues.”

Funds raised through the Southlake SHIFT Gala will support the highest priority needs at Southlake today, new and replacement tools, equipment and technology not funded by the government, but essential to patient care and daily operations at the hospital. This includes basic items like hospital beds, mattresses and IV poles to advanced surgical and diagnostic technology.

“The Gala is one of our largest fundraising events, and the funds raised through this event are absolutely crucial to the hospital,” says Mullin. “Without this support, we simply wouldn’t have the tools that our teams depend on to provide the best possible patient care, and patients in our communities would have to travel downtown to get the same high level of care that our talented teams can offer them right here, close to home.”

A total of five Surgical HD Video Towers were funded through the Fund-the-Need live auction portion of the evening. Containing high-definition cameras and screens, the procedures that the Surgical HD Video Towers make possible mean that patients can have the fastest, most accurate treatment and best possible outcomes, with shorter and less painful recovery, less scarring, and greatly reduced risk of infection post surgery. These Surgical HD Video Towers are the surgeon’s eyes during innovative, minimally-invasive surgery – and the current equipment at Southlake is 15 years old and reaching the end of life.

In addition to the commitment of our sponsors, Southlake Foundation is grateful to the hard work and dedication of the 2019 Gala Executive Committee, Susan Chant, Ann Marie Neeb and Felicia Salomon, whose efforts ensured this event was a tremendous success for Southlake.

Thanks to generous support of this event, the right tools and equipment are in the hands of Southlake’s expert clinical teams, enabling them to continue delivering the best possible care to the 1.5 million patients who rely on Southlake for care across York Region, South Simcoe County and as far north as Muskoka.
