The hot dog cart outside a Canadian Tire in Richmond Hill was ordered to close temporarily after an inspection from York Region Public Health on Dec. 8.

The cart, which is located at 250 Silver Linden Dr., was found to be not in compliance with a number of rules. This included proper hand washing, constant supply of potable water, proper equipment for cleaning and sanitizing utensils, keeping equipment surfaces clean, and ensuring the presence of a certified food handler at all times.

Public Health carried out on-site education, mandated food handler certification, ordered a re-inspection and order the premise to close as it was "maintained in a manner permitting health hazard."

York Region Public Health inspects food establishments regularly under the Health Protection and Promotion Act. Any charges or orders resulting from those inspections are reported on weekly.
