Newmarket is once again putting out a call for citizens to help keep their community neat and tidy.
The municipality’s 43rd annual community cleanup campaign is kicking off Monday, June 14. For the next two weeks, the town will provide cleanup kits available for pickup at the Ray Twinney Recreation Complex on Eagle St. The effort encourages residents to take care of local greenspaces, though with physical distancing measures in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We can’t meet up to clean up, but you can continue to do your part,” the municipality said in its newsletter.
The kits, limited to one per group, include gloves, garbage and recycling bags, instructions and safety tips. Cleanups can be at any public park, green space or trail, though there are two dozen targeted locations. These include:
- Hollingsworth Arena (35 Patterson St.)
- Old Town Hall (460 Botsford St.)
- Newmarket Public Library (438 Park Ave.)
- Whipper Billy Watson Park (475 Clearmeadow Blvd.)
- Fairy Lake Park (520 Water St.)
- South end of Tom Taylor Trail, near Foxtail Ridge
- Arnhem Park (595 Mulock Court)
- Best Family Parkette (Best Circle)
- College Manor Park (705 College Manor Dr.)
- Bonshaw Avenue Park (130 Bonshaw Ave.)
- Armstrong Park (860 Joe Persechini Dr.)
- Environmental Park (Woodspring Ave.)
- Frank Stronach Park (Memorial Circle)
- George Richardson Park (Bayview Parkway)
- Haskett Park (145 Millard Ave.)
- Keffer Parkette (110 Keffer Circle)
- Lions Park (424 D'Arcy St.)
- Proctor Park (277 Primrose Lane)
- Rene Bray Park (1030 Ivsbridge Blvd.)
- Woodland Hills Labyrinth Park (45 Ford Wilson Blvd.)
- Marilyn Powell Park (435 London Rd.)
- Paul Semple Park (145 Savage Rd.)
- Dave Kerwin Trail (Woodspring Avenue)
- Charles Van Zant Open Space (205 Waratah Ave.)
When finished, bags can be placed at a garbage receptacle, a numbered light post on a trail or a curb for town staff to pick up.
The campaign has featured a larger kickoff with an appreciation event in the past, though has been more limited the past two years due to COVID-19.
The kits will be available through curbside pickup June 14 to 27, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. while supplies last. More information is available at www.newmarket.ca/communitycleanup.
