Newmarket, Markham restaurants charged with public health violations

Two establishments in York Region were charged for public health violations by York Region inspectors last week.

Kung Fu Tea in Newmarket, 9 - 883 Mulock Dr., was charged Jan. 30 for failing to ensure the presence of a food handler or supervisor during all hours of operation, according to the report for inspections made Jan. 29 to Feb. 4 by York Region Community and Health Services, health protection division.  

During the compliance inspection, food handler education was carried out on site.

In Markham, 369 Shanghai Dim Sum,  C8 - 8380 Kennedy Rd., was charged Jan. 31 for failing to protect against the entry of pests.

The restaurant was also flagged by inspectors for failing to store and maintain potentially hazardous food at an internal temperature 4°C (40°F) and lower, failing to provide a thermometer in hot-holding equipment, failing to use hand washing station for reasons other than its intended use, and failing to ensure walls are kept clean/in good repair.

Food handler education was carried out on site and a re-inspection will be conducted at a later date, according to the report.
