If you're struggling to find something to do with your mom on Mother's Day, Newmarket's Burnt Offerings Studio and Bar97 offer to help you both find your inner artist with a clay planter workshop to be held at the local sports bar and grill.

Using kiln-fired stoneware clay, carving tools, press moulds, and fun bright colours, you can personalize your project any way you like, Burnt Offerings Studio owner Cathy Gifford said.

Staff will be on hand to help you out at the event. Your creation will be taken back to Burnt Offerings Studio to be kiln-fired, dipped in clear glaze and re-fired, making it shiny and watertight. Your planter will be returned back to Bar97 in about 2 weeks and ready for your favourite plants.

"My husband and I attended one of Cathy’s Pottery and Pints events at Market Brewing Company," said Shannon Bowler. "It was a great date night and we found her professional staff to be very helpful to us non-artists. We created a project we loved. They made  it easy to create something we will treasure. I highly recommend her workshops."

The workshop takes place on Mother's Day, Sunday, May 12 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Cost is $45 and includes a planter, an appetizer and a drink.

Tickets can be purchased here.
