A restaurant in Georgina was temporarily closed last week after an inspection by York Region Public Health.

Jade Garden, at 4 - 443 The Queensway South in Georgina, was ordered closed Aug. 24 after a complaint inspection. The restaurant was found to be not in compliance of a number of items, according to public health inspectors.

It failed to ensure equipment surfaces were cleaned and sanitized and non-food contact surfaces and ventilation systems were clean, provide adequate protection against pests, maintain sanitary bathrooms, keep rooms free of materials and equipment that aren't used regularly, and failed to have at least one certified food handler present at all times, according to the inspection report.

It was also found to be maintaining the premise in a "manner permitting rodent/pest infestation" and a "manner permitting health hazard."

Food handler education was conducted on-site, a re-inspection date was issued, and the restaurant received closure orders.

On Aug. 26, Jade Garden was re-inspected. Further education was carried out on site and the restaurant was re-opened, public health said.

This was one of the charges and orders issued by York Region Public Health between Aug. 22 and 28 under the Health Protection and Promotion Act.

Also during this time period, a restaurant in Markham was charged for failing to maintain sanitary conditions and protect food from contamination.

Yong He, at 110-111-7077 Kennedy Rd. was inspected on Aug. 24 and found not to be in compliance with ensuring walls and floors were kept clean and in good repair.

Education was conducted at the restaurant and it was charged with two offences, according to the inspection report. The first was "food premise not maintained with food handling room in sanitary condition" and the second was "fail to protect food from contamination or adulteration."

A re-inspection will be conducted at this restaurant, public health said.
