Georgina marina, Vaughan event centre among 33 charges for COVID-19 violations

Pasadena Marina in Georgina and PineCrest Event Centre in Vaughan are among four businesses charged for COVID-19 violations in York Region from May 10 to 16. 

In total, York Region COVID-19 task force members conducted 1,370 inspections last week.

The marina at 534 Lake Dr. South was charged by Georgina bylaw officers for failure to comply with the province’s Reopen Ontario Act, however a specific violation wasn't named. 

Vaughan bylaw officers charged PineCrest at 17 Vinyl Court for not ensuring that their food establishment was only open for take-out, delivery, or drive-thru service. 

Another charge was laid at Andolini’s, a restaurant located at 4 - 14 Oxford St. in Richmond Hill. They were fined for not having a COVID-19 safety plan in place. 

Also, a nail salon in Markham called Lan Beauty Spa at 8601 Warden Ave. was fined for being open contrary to the current orders. 

All four businesses face fines of $750 plus a surcharge bringing the total to $880 each.

Town of Newmarket enforcement officers did not lay any charges, however, 122 inspections and eight education activities were completed.  

The summary of the 33 charges issued under the provincial Reopening Ontario Act and Section 22 of the Health Protection and Promotion Act:

  • 1 charge issued by York Region Public Health
  • 9 charges issued by York Region Transit
  • 20 charges issued by York Regional Police
  • 1 charge issued by the Town of Georgina
  • 1 charge issued by the City of Markham
  • 1 charge issued by the City of Vaughan
