East Gwillimbury donates equipment to Firefighters Without Borders

National non-profit provides donated firefighting and life-saving equipment to countries and communities in need

East Gwillimbury’s Emergency and Community Safety Services team has donated more than 80 pieces of used equipment to Firefighters Without Borders, a national non-profit organization based in Ontario that provides training and equipment donations to communities around the world.

Personal protective equipment, masks and breathing apparatus, bunker gear, boots, fire hose and helmets were among the items donated.

Firefighters Without Borders provides firefighting and life-saving equipment to countries and communities in need, including Bolivia, Saint Lucia, Honduras, Peru, Moose Deer Point First Nation, Lac Seul First Nation, and the Dominican Republic.

“We are always so thrilled to make a donation to Firefighters Without Borders,” said East Gwillimbury Fire Chief Robert McKenzie in a news release. “It’s an incredible organization with a deep impact. Having the proper fire suppression equipment will allow the firefighters in these communities to safely respond and help their residents.”
