Metrolinx will host an open house next week to discuss double tracking along GO Transit's Barrie Line.

An in-person event will be held in Toronto on Tuesday, Nov. 28, but there will also be virtual presentations over five nights.

Metrolinx, the provincial government agency which runs GO Transit, says the consultations will focus on the "Barrie Double Track Enabling Works" project in Toronto, which will construct a second set of tracks for future two-way, all-day GO train service on the Barrie Line.

This project is organized into seven zones of construction, from King Street West to Finch Avenue West.

The upcoming open houses will specifically look at progress in Zone 3 – from St. Clair Avenue West to Eglinton Avenue West – and provide a general update on all other project zones.

The in-person event is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 28 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., at Silverthorn Community School, located at 300 Kane Ave.

The virtual event, which will include presentation materials and feedback options, will be available on the event website from Nov. 27 until Dec. 1.

The project includes preparatory work, such as grading, vegetation removal, utility relocation, noise barriers, security fencing, storm sewer installation and platform expansion, as well as Sheppard Bridge and Downsview Station enhancements.

These Barrie Line upgrades, as well as the wider GO rail network, are part of the GO expansion program.  More information can also be found here.

Metrolinx says it wants to bring faster, more frequent train service to the region by adding more trains, more stations, more options and more connections to support population growth, alleviate traffic congestion and give customers more time to do the things they love.

It says there are $11 billion of GO expansion projects are already completed or in construction across the region.
