Today, June 5, donate your non-perishable food items without leaving your home.

Just choose a time slot and volunteers with The Stay Home, Remain a Hero food drive will pick up donations left outside and transport them to the Newmarket Food Pantry.

Each person who donates is entered to win a $50 Uber Eats gift card courtesy of Viera Restoration Inc.

Stay Home, Remain a Hero is a remote food drive organized by university students in 2020 to provide the community with a pandemic-friendly way to support the pantry

"Through times of hardship we recognize that there are many vulnerable people within our community that are in desperate need of food donations. Hunger affects every community, and we have made it our mission to do our part in giving back," student Avery Matheson said in an email.

More than 1,000 pounds of food was donated in 2020 and 1,500 was donated in 2021. This year, organizers hope to collect 2,000 pounds.
