Charity carnival set to return to Newmarket for first time since 2019

Tickets are on sale for the May event that raises money for Easter Seals and Southlake Foundation

Planning is underway for the Joe Persechini Charity Midway carnival to be held at the Magna Centre this May.

Newmarket council accepted a staff report April 11 recommending approval of the organizer's licence for the event on May 12 to 15.

The carnival is hosted by Campbell Amusement and sponsored by the Easter Seal Society of Ontario. Proceeds from the event support the Easter Seals, as well as Southlake Regional Health Centre.

The carnival will be held in the western and southern parking lots at the Magna Centre.

The popular midway event was cancelled throughout the pandemic.

Early bird tickets are already on sale online. You can buy family packs of all-access wristbands that allow you all-day rides on any one day of the carnival. You can use the family passes on any group of four, five or six people but all members must be present at the time of redemption. Individual ride coupons will also be sold but those are only available for purchase at the midway.

Town staff are supportive of the carnival moving ahead, according to the report presented to the committee today, and will work with the organizers to finalize details and ensure it meets the town bylaws. No concerns or comments were raised at the meeting.

The licensing application will be voted on by council for formal approval.
