York Regional Police have charged a 60-year-old man and believe that there may be additional victims in an ongoing fraud investigation in Georgina.

The investigation began in early June, when a 72-year-old female victim came forward to report she may have been defrauded. The victim advised police that she had met the suspect on an online dating site. When they met in person, the victim talked about a legal issue that she was having. The suspect told the victim that he was a lawyer and would be pleased to represent her in court. The victim agreed and began paying cash for legal services that she never received. After the victim paid more than $3,000, she became suspicious and contacted police.

Investigators identified the suspect as 60-year-old Enrico Cagnotti and confirmed that he was not a lawyer. On Wednesday, June 6, 2018, investigators located the man parked at a gas station in the area of Ravenshoe Road and The Queensway South. When police attempted to speak with the man, he drove over a curb and sped away from the area. A warrant was issued for his arrest and on Thursday, August 9, 2018, investigators were informed a man had been arrested on an unrelated matter in Toronto.

Investigators are releasing an image of Mr. Cagnotti as they believe that there may be more victims.

  • Alias: Ricardo GIAMBRONE
