Here's your chance to get meet local firefighters and learn about fire safety at the annual open house Saturday, Sept.  23 at Central York Fire Services' (CYFS) state-of-the-art station.

Aurora and Newmarket residents are invited to get to know their local fire department and learn more about simple but important actions that prevent fires at home from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Station 4-5, 300 Earl Stewart Dr. in Aurora.

The event is in recognition of Fire Prevention Week, Oct. 8 to 14, which focuses on the importance of cooking safety this year, according to a news release.

Enjoy morning coffee and doughnuts, barbecue hot dogs, Tim Hortons Express Train, arts and crafts, prizes, games, Sparky the Fire Dog, interactive fire safety activities and more.

For more than 20 years, Central York Fire Services has been providing fire protection, prevention and emergency services in Newmarket and Aurora.

This year marks the one-year anniversary of the grand opening of Fire Station 4-5, the first jointly built fire station by the Towns of Aurora and Newmarket, after the two municipalities consolidated fire services in 2002. It also houses two fire crews, the administrative offices and CYFS’ training division.
