Award-winning folk singer-songwriter to perform in Newmarket

Suzie Vinnick will perform Oct. 28 in Newmarket.

The Newmarket Folk Society is bringing multiple Maple Blues award winner Suzie Vinnick to Newmarket on Saturday, Oct. 28.

Vinnick, who was born in Saskatoon but now lives in Niagara Region, has "a gorgeous voice, prodigious guitar and bass chops, and an engagingly candid performance style," according to a news release.

Among her most recent successes is receiving the 2019 Saskatchewan Jazz Festival Special Recognition Award and being nominated for a 2018 Canadian Folk Music Award for Producer of the Year with her co-producer, Mark Lalama.

Vinnick was a finalist in the Solo/Duo category at the 2013 International Blues Challenge in Memphis, received the 2012 CBC Saturday Night Blues Great Canadian Blues Award and the 2012 SiriusXM Canada Blues Artist of the Year. She has won 11 Maple Blues Awards, one Canadian Folk Music Award for Contemporary Vocalist of the Year and is a three-time Juno nominee.

She was a special guest of Blackie and the Rodeo Kings at Ottawa Bluesfest along with Daniel Lanois last July. She has also toured nationally with Downchild, Stuart McLean’s The Vinyl Café, with ASV (A’Court, Spiegel and Vinnick), the John McDermott Band and has performed for Canadian peacekeepers in Bosnia and the Persian Gulf. She was also the voice of Tim Hortons for five years.

Her latest album is entitled Fall Back Home.
