A food drive at CARSTAR Newmarket brought in 416 pounds of items for the Newmarket Food Pantry.

A food drive by a Newmarket collision repair facility resulted in a donation of 416 pounds of food to the Newmarket Food Pantry.

The CARSTAR Newmarket team collected food from their community to make a difference for those in need this holiday season.

“We can’t thank our community enough for stepping up and supporting this year’s food drive,” Romena Deokinandan, co-owner of CARSTAR Newmarket, said in a news release. “Our team is passionate about giving back to our Newmarket community. It was incredible to see the dedication from each of our employees in this initiative and we look forward to continuing to help our neighbourhood for years to come.”

The Newmarket Food Pantry was founded in 1988 when local churches came together to co-ordinate efforts and consolidate resources to support Newmarket families in need. In the beginning, the Newmarket Food Pantry was averaging 25 visits a week, but with the changes in the economy and the increased population in Newmarket, the food pantry is now seeing an average of 400 visits per month, helping more than 1,000 people.

“We know this time of year can be challenging for some and our team is passionate about helping those in need,” added Deokinandan. “It was a rewarding experience and we are grateful to everyone who supported this cause and helped give to the Newmarket Food Pantry.”
