The York Catholic District School Board (YCDSB) congratulates Cardinal Carter Catholic High School student, Emanuel Piccininni, on receiving the prestigious Schulich Leadership Scholarship worth $100,000 for demonstrating academic excellence in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Piccininni will study engineering at Queen’s University in September.

Schulich Leadership Scholarships Canada presents its prestigious entrance scholarships to top students across Canada enrolling in a STEM undergraduate program, to encourage Canada’s “best and brightest students to become the next generation of entrepreneurial-minded, technology innovators.”

“I am excited to join the network of past and present Schulich Leaders. It's an opportunity to learn and collaborate with like-minded individuals who share similar goals. I would like to contribute to the innovation of positive changes in the future. Throughout my years of education, from St. Mary's Catholic Elementary School to Cardinal Carter, I have been blessed with support and encouragement from my teachers. I look forward to continuing my journey at Queen's University,” said Piccininni.

The YCDSB offers an enhanced focus on science, technology, religion, engineering, arts and math (STREAM), recognizing the importance of preparing its students for a future influenced by technology and innovation.

“On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I would like to congratulate Emanuel on his remarkable achievement. This high honour is reflective of the culture of academic excellence at YCDSB,” said Maria Marchese, Chair of the Board of Trustees. “Our students receive world-class education while being guided by our Catholic virtues and core values. This, coupled with our students’ determination and hard work, is what ensures they are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to become successful lifelong learners.”

“We are so proud of our students as they continue their pursuit of STREAM in an ever-changing world. On behalf of the YCDSB, I offer my sincerest congratulations to Cardinal Carter Catholic High School’s very own, Emanuel Piccininni, on receiving this prestigious scholarship. We wish him well as he pursues higher education at Queen’s University,” said Ab Falconi, Director of Education. “I would also like to say a special thank you to all YCDSB staff for their guidance and leadership to ensure every student has the opportunity to reach their full potential. This is one of the many reasons why the YCDSB continues to be one of the top performing school boards in Ontario.”
