Armed Innisfil man arrested following 2-hour negotiation with police

A 42-year-old Innisfil man faces 10 charges after police responded to a report of a man in crisis with a firearm.

On Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2018 around 3:30 a.m., South Simcoe Police Service officers were called to a home in the Belle Aire Beach Road and Maple Road area of Innisfil. Responding officers made contact with the man who refused to come outside. Police saw that he was armed with a rifle. Two South Simcoe Police Service officers trained as crisis negotiators spoke to the man through a window for two hours. Other officers contained the area around the home.

At approximately 5:45 a.m., the man was taken into custody after going into a garage at the rear of the property and lighting a fire.

The man is charged with:
  •   3 counts of possession of a firearm contrary to prohibition order
  •    possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  •    careless use of a firearm
  •    unauthorized possession of a firearm
  •    3 counts breach probation order
  •    knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm

He was held for a bail hearing. No one was injured during the incident.
