Newmarket-based charity Abuse Hurts is inviting you to pop in to its pop-up at Aurora’s recently revived Machell’s Alley.

The two-day event takes place Aug. 27 and 28 in the outdoor space on Yonge Street in Aurora’s downtown core.

Day one of the pop-up will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. and features live music from Helena of Abuse Hurts and Maria Matheus, and Miss London World 2021 will be there to raise awareness and funds for Huggum's Hope Memorial Fund, which helps honour the lives of abandoned babies.

There will also be a silent auction, new designer purses and clothing for sale, and Huggum Bear will be there for pictures with the kids.

The second day, held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., will also feature the auction, clothing sale, and Huggum Bear, as well as a musical performance by The Grady Brothers from noon to 3 p.m.

The event is free for the whole family, including furry friends, to attend.

Visitors are encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy or gift card to donate, as Abuse Hurts’s holiday drive has already begun.

The venue for the pop-up is a formerly vacant piece of land in downtown Aurora that was revamped earlier this year.

The temporarily donated land, which housed a number of different businesses before the building was torn down in 1991, has been transformed this year with picnic tables, bright coloured umbrellas, and string lights.

Named Machell’s Alley in honour of some of Aurora early entrepreneurs, the open-air space is also used for people picking up takeout from nearby restaurants.

Throughout the summer, events like the upcoming pop-up and live music shows have taken place there.
