Newmarket sisters Manha and Laiba Yusuf have donated about 300 backpacks full of school supplies to youth in need through their third annual back-to-school fundraiser.

The sisters, 10 and 8, sold peaches, corn, and dried fruit and nut platters to raise funds for backpacks and school supplies throughout July and August.

Over the past week, the duo delivered them to organizations and youth in need.

The donations were dropped off at Rose of Sharon, Inn From the Cold, Newmarket Food Pantry, Belinda’s Place, Yellow Brick House, 360kids, and SickKids, as well as youth in the community from low income households, they said.

The girls added they want to thank everyone in York Region who donated to help them reach their goal.

The sisters have also been selling food products and fundraising throughout the year, donating thousands of dollars to Inn From the Cold, Newmarket's shelter for homeless individuals.

In June, 10-year-old Manha was recognized for her philanthropic efforts when she received the prestigious Diana Award, given to youth around the world doing good in their community.
