101-year-old woman is 51st Newmarket resident to die with COVID-19

A 101-year-old Newmarket woman is the 51st resident to pass away with COVID-19 during the pandemic.

The woman died Monday, July 5 at Southlake Regional Health Centre in Newmarket with a case of COVID-19 acquired through close contact, according to York Region spokesperson Patrick Casey.

The date of symptom onset was Wednesday, June 23 and the date of the positive test result was Friday, July 2, he said.

"We offer condolences to the family and loved ones of our resident," Casey said.

To date, 743 York Region residents have died with COVID-19, with 158 of the deaths confirmed as variant of concern cases.

Of the 51 COVID-19 related fatalities of Newmarket residents, 10 are confirmed as variant cases.
