Ontario reporting 309 more COVID-19 cases today, lowest daily total this month

The province reported the lowest daily increase in COVID-19 cases this month with 309 new confirmed cases this morning.

The daily case count hasn’t dipped below 375 since March 31, when the province reported 260 new cases.

The total number of COVID-19 cases reported in Ontario is now 4,347 with 1,624 of those now recovered. There have been 132 deaths attributed to COVID-19 in the province.

Numbers of new cases are lower this morning in York Region, too, with four additional confirmed COVID-19 being reported, including another health-care worker in Markham. The total cases confirmed total 458 this morning.

Southlake Regional Health Centre is reporting three COVID-19 related deaths. No additional details are being provided.

Two more COVID-19 fatalities have occurred in Markham, where 11 of the region's 16 deaths have occurred, most among elderly individuals who resided at long-term care homes.

A man in his 80s passed away Saturday, April 4 at Markham Stouffville Hospital, and woman in her 80s was the sixth resident to die at Markhaven Home for Seniors, where a COVID-19 outbreak was declared March 22.

In Ontario, 160 patients are on ventilators and another 66 in intensive care units with COVID-19. There are a total of 589 patients hospitalized for the virus in the province.

In York Region, of the 37 hospitalized patients, 20 are in ICU.

Ontario’s COVID-19 statistics are reported every day at 10:30 a.m. and reflect case information reported by public health units as of 4 p.m. the previous day.

Of the total number of lab-confirmed cases in the province, 47.3 per cent of the patients have been male and 52.2 per cent female.

There have been 1,537 cases in people between the ages of 40 and 59, 1,167 in people aged 20 to 39, 1,077 in people aged 60-79, 455 in people aged 80 and over and 107 cases in people aged 19 and under.

There are 329 cases still awaiting test results and there have been 78,796 people tested for COVID-19 in Ontario, which is about 0.5 per cent of the population.
