Ontario cases top 7,000, including 86 long-term care facility outbreaks

Nine long-term care homes are under COVID-19 protocols in York Region, including three in Newmarket

Ontario is reporting another 401 confirmed cases of COVID-19 — a six per cent increase — bringing the total number of cases to 7,049. 

The province is also reporting 274 deaths related to COVID-19, which is an increase of 21 deaths from yesterday. 

There are now 86 outbreaks reported at long-term care homes, which is an increase of seven over yesterday’s report. 

Newmarket marked its largest single-day increase in confirmed COVID-19 cases, with nine more cases yesterday, bringing its total to 47.

York Region has 679 cases and 26 COVID-19 related deaths, as well as outbreaks at nine long-term care facilities and retirement homes, including Newmarket's Southlake Residential Care Village, Eagle Terrace Long-Term Care Home and Mackenzie Place Long-Term Care. 

In Ontario, there are now 3,121 reported recoveries from the virus, and 738 people are hospitalized with the virus. Of those hospitalized, 261 are in intensive care units and 196 patients on ventilators. 

Of Ontario’s 7,049 cases, 44.8 per cent are male and 54.6 per cent are female. There are 2,735 cases confirmed in people aged 60 and over and 2,403 cases in people aged 40 to 59.
