Newmarket library offers new online programs for babies, toddlers, children

Newmarket Public Library is continuing to implement its cautious re-opening to serve the community. 

After introducing curbside service in late July, the library moved to allowing people to enter the building for pickup of on-hold items and to use public computer workstations for an hour at a time. Now it is beginning to provide walk-in service.

Staff will retrieve books for individuals, who can peruse them while they are in the library to decide which ones they would like to borrow. The library asks that people only request enough books to satisfy their immediate needs, and to not linger and read them on the spot. Books that are not chosen by a borrower will be quarantined for the recommended time before being re-shelved. 

The library’s re-opening has been done with great care to adhere to the best practices being recommended by health professionals for the safety of staff and the public. Unfortunately, it may be some time before programs can be held in person again at the library. In the meantime, library staff continue to offer online programming. 

This fall a number of popular library programs for babies, toddlers, and young children will be moving online, including:

Family Storytimes

This program for children six months to 5 years starts Saturday, Sept. 5 from 9:45 to 10:15 a.m. We’ll share stories, songs, rhymes, finger-plays and more. Interactive fun for your little one will come right into your home this fall. Register now at http://bit.ly/storyfamily

Parent-Child Mother Goose

Presented by the EarlyON Child and Family Centre, the Parent-Child Mother Goose program focuses on communication, language and social relationships for children ages 3 to 10 months. Stories, songs, rhymes and more will be used to help educate and entertain. This 10-week online program starts on Thursday, Sept. 24 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Register now for a great time for you and your child. http://bit.ly/earlyonmothergoose

Babytime / Toddlertime / Tale For Threes

Online versions of NPL’s Babytime, Toddlertime, and Tales For Threes. Always popular, these programs provide you and your child with some great interactive learning and enjoyment. We’ll sing songs, listen to rhymes, do fingerplays, and share some good times together. STEAM Storytime

Our STEAM storytime is both fun and interesting for children 3 to 6 years old and their caregivers. We’ll be engaging your child’s natural curiosity about STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) through stories, songs and more.
