NEWS RELEASE
TOWN OF EAST GWILLIMBURY
*************************
The town is reopening the East Gwillimbury Sports Complex just in time for hockey and ice-skating season! As of Aug. 24, 2020, the Atlas/East Pad at the East Gwillimbury Sports Complex will re-open for programming. In preparation of the opening, the Town has worked closely with York Region community and health services to ensure all required health precautions are in place and provincial legislation is being followed.

Access to the facility will only be available through pre-planned programs organized by East Gwillimbury Minor Hockey Association (EGMHA) and the East Gwillimbury Skating Club (ESC), and the Town of East Gwillimbury.

This initial opening will allow the town to pilot all safety precautions and guidelines as listed below to prepare for the further re-opening of the second NewRoads/West Pad that is proposed to occur in early September.

Enhanced Safety Measures
The town has reviewed the safety requirements outlined in stage 3 of the Provincial Guidelines and developed the following protocols and guidelines for the reopening of town facilities:

  • Face masks will be mandatory within municipal facilities.
  • All staff will receive safety and training protocols prior to re-opening.
  • Community/sports groups and occupants will be provided with instructions and guidelines that must be followed when attending municipal facilities.
  • All facilities will include physical adaptations to workplaces and operational environments as per York Region Public Health guidelines and industry best practices (physical distancing markers, directional arrows, screens at service desks, and hand sanitizing stations).
  • Enhanced cleaning will be provided at each facility, including additional cleaning of washroom facilities and change rooms, routine cleaning and disinfecting of high touch surfaces, work surfaces, seating, and equipment.
  • Screening and contact tracing protocol for individuals and groups will be in effect.
  • Facilities will not be open to the public and will remain locked. Monitored and controlled public access will be provided through permits and pre-registration to ensure maximum occupancy numbers do not exceed the provincial regulations of 50 individuals per facility. Total occupancy of 50 individuals does not include town staff.
