The current pandemic has put pressure on our food banks. The combination of COVID-related job losses and shoppers spending less time in grocery stores (to reduce their exposure) has contributed to food donations taking a hit.

Which is why the “virtual food drive” is an ideal way to fill in any gaps.

From now until May 31, Vince’s Market and Upper Canada Mall have teamed up to support the Newmarket Food Pantry’s COVID-19 Hunger Relief efforts – and help ensure that contactless food delivery continues.

By visiting shopmarketandco.com/class/virtual-food-drive, individuals can purchase a bag of groceries for a family in need. There are three options:

  • $10: 5 to 7 food items
  • $20: 6 to 9 food items
  • $30: 10 to 12 food items

Bags can include a variety of soup mixes, sweet peas, cream chowder, mackerel fillets, flakes of ham, green beans, and more. Simply select the dollar amount ($10, $20, or $30), pay online, and Vince’s Market will fulfill the order and make a contactless delivery to the Newmarket Food Pantry.

For those who still wish to make a donation at the store, all four main Vince’s locations offer food pantry bags at the checkout. Their Market & Co. location at Upper Canada Mall is closed temporarily.

“We are pleased to be working with Upper Canada Mall, who is spreading the word through their large customer base,” said Giancarlo Trimarchi, partner at Vince’s Market. “Our first week has been a success: 73 bags donated and approximately $2,300 worth of food destined for the Newmarket Food pantry. We look forward to making a positive difference over the next three weeks.”
