Newmarket Mayor John Taylor shares excitement about our town's reopening for summer fun in this month's column. As always, he welcomes your questions and comments via [email protected]

The COVID-19 pandemic is not over, but thanks to vaccines, we are now able to live life more normally and shop, visit and be entertained once again. After two years in lockdown, the Town of Newmarket is excited to offer a summer full of fun for everyone.

We are thrilled to once again offer our incredibly popular Thursday night cover band concerts at Riverwalk Commons. Moonlight Movies are also coming back to a park near you all summer so get your chairs and blankets out. Thank you TD Bank for sponsoring the music and movie series.

Once again in June, we will be hosting the York Region Pride Parade and Pride Fest and welcoming people from all over the GTA to the celebration that welcomes and celebrates diversity and the LGBT2 community.

We’ll kick off July with our biggest event of the year – Canada Day. Our Tim Hortons Canada Day events and fireworks offer something for everyone and bring us all together with pride in our country and a love of community.

We’ll wrap up the summer events season on Sept. 9 with the Splash of Culture. This is one of my favourite events featuring classical and creative musical offerings and lighting set right on the water at the Riverwalk.

We know that people want to be out seeing their neighbours and enjoying amazing entertainment and that is why we are as excited as you to be offering a full slate of fun this summer right here in Newmarket – enjoy!
