The Dickson Park grandstand restoration is nearly complete.

The Dickson Park grandstand restoration project is almost complete according to the City of Cambridge.

Originally scheduled to be done at the end of 2023, the city is now citing a June time frame for completion.

Unpredictable weather forced the project to be delayed at the end of last year, with one of the main concerns being the ability to paint.

The entire scope of work for the 104-year-old structure included a roof replacement, steel framing, painting, wood bleacher replacement where necessary, retaining walls, perimeter wall "elastometric" coating and railings.

Installation of railings, painting of the bleachers and landscaping are the final items on the to do list.

Despite the roughly six month delay, the work is still under budget, the city has confirmed.

Back in December it was reported the project was $116,000 under the original $1,284,000.00 price tag, although the city didn't confirm how far under budget it currently is.

In order to begin the project, the city needed to obtain a heritage permit requiring an alteration to Part V of the Ontario Heritage Act. The structure was designated under the act in 2005 as part of the Dickson Hill Heritage Conservation District.

Some maintenance work was done in 1997 and any major improvements are based on the period circa 1871 in order to enhance its sense of history and landscape.
