Van burns outside of Southlake Regional Health Centre

Emergency responders came to the scene of a car engulfed in flames outside Southlake Regional Health Centre Feb. 21.

Emergency responders came to the scene of a car engulfed in flames outside Southlake Regional Health Centre Feb. 21.

Central York Fire Services had two firetrucks on the scene, where a van was burning at one of the exits to the hospital's outdoor parking. Firefighters put out the blaze within a half hour of York Regional Police posting on social media about the vehicle “fully engulfed in flames.”

Central York Fire Services Captain Frank Boyden, who was on the scene, said there were no injuries, and the exact cause of the fire is unknown.

York Regional Police posted about the fire around 10:10 a.m.

Firefighters on the scene cleaned the van for about an hour before departing and allowing the vehicle to be towed away.

It is not the first vehicle fire at Southlake in recent memory. Last summer, York Regional Police investigated and charged a man in connection with a car set on fire at the hospital's parking garage.
