Police have laid an additional charge in connection to a protest that took place outside of a Thornhill synagogue in March.

The demonstration was held March 7 in the area of Clark Avenue and Bathurst Street in relation to the Israel-Hamas war. Police initially charged three people.

Police say a woman grabbed a victim’s shoulder, pulled him into the crowd of demonstrators and tried to take his Israeli flag. A struggle followed and the flag was damaged. No injuries were reported.

On April 30, police charged Ghadir Mokahal, 48, of Toronto, with mischief to property under $5,000.

The York Regional Police Hate Crime Prevention Unit continues to investigate incidents connected to the protest and asks anyone with information to call 1-866-876-5423, ext. 7241. Information can be provided anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or 1800222tips.com.
