'Wintery mess' heading this way Sunday

A 'messy mix of weather' is forecasted for Newmarket and area beginning early Sunday morning.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement this afternoon for the "wintery mix" coming to York Region.

A strengthening low pressure system could bring several hours of freezing rain or ice pellets before transitioning to snow Sunday afternoon.

Light snow is then expected to continue through Sunday night before tapering off Monday morning.

"There remains some uncertainty as to the track of the low (pressure system), however, there is the potential that some areas could see total snowfall amounts of five to 10 cm by Monday morning," according to the weather statement.
