York Regional Police is seeking public assistance to identify a suspect and locate a stolen vehicle following a collision with a police cruiser in Newmarket.

On Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2019, at 6 p.m., officers on patrol saw a vehicle parked that was running, with the driver asleep at the wheel, at a restaurant in the area of Yonge Street and Dawson Manor Boulevard. The officers approached the driver to check on his well-being. The driver woke up and spoke with officers, then put the truck in drive and fled, striking a police cruiser. The vehicle was last seen driving south on Yonge Street at a high rate of speed.

Officers later determined that the vehicle was stolen in a warm-up theft that had occurred on Feb. 8, 2019, in the City of Vaughan.

Investigators are releasing dashcam video of the incident and appealing to the public for any information that will assist with identifying the driver and locating the stolen vehicle.

Suspect description:

  • Male
  • 40 to 55 years
  • Wearing a white t-shirt, black jacket and a red hat

Stolen vehicle:

  • 2010 Honda Ridgeline
  • Grey
  • Ontario licence plate: AC90002
