To commemorate the police service’s 50th anniversary, York Regional Police is proud to present York Regional Police: 50 Years of Excellence in Policing, an elegant, hardcover book highlighting our people, equipment and evolving police units between 1971 and 2021.

York Regional Police: 50 Years of Excellence in Policing is currently available for sale online on this website. Copies are $60 each.

All proceeds from the sale of this beautifully designed, 248-page book will be donated to Special Olympics Ontario and the United Way, two of our service’s charities of choice.

This exciting volume is chock-full of historic images gleaned from the organization’s own archives and from the personal collections of members past and present. All were restored in vivid detail within the book’s pages, with accompanying stories written by York Regional Police corporate communications staff following two years of research and interviews.

Hundreds of historic newspaper editions, magazines, organizational reports and, perhaps most importantly, retired and working members, including the YRP historical committee, were consulted over that two-year period. The book also includes a foreword written by Eric Jolliffe, who served as the region’s chief of police from 2010 to 2020, and an afterword by current Chief Jim MacSween.

“I commend the work of our two members who spearheaded this project, strategic communications specialist Billy Courtice and graphic designer Mike Bastin, who wrote and designed this stunning book while still keeping up with their regular duties,” said Chief MacSween. “This visual snapshot of our history is truly inspiring for both our members and the community.”
