With the holiday shopping season in full swing, York Regional Police is making it easier to please the police historian in your life.

For a limited time, all purchases of York Regional Police: 50 Years of Excellence in Policing, a commemorative coffee-table book released earlier this year, can be shipped free to any Canadian address. The book is currently available for sale online. Copies are $60 each. All proceeds from the sale of this beautifully designed, 248-page book will be donated to Special Olympics Ontario and the United Way, two of our service’s charities of choice.

“With so many demands on us during the holidays, the need of our local charities might go overlooked,” said Chief Jim MacSween. “By purchasing this book, you have found the perfect gift for a police history buff or anyone interested in our profession and you have helped support two outstanding organizations.”

York Regional Police: 50 Years of Excellence in Policing is an elegant, hardcover book highlighting our people, equipment and evolving police units between 1971 and 2021. This exciting volume is chock-full of historic images gleaned from the organization’s own archives and from the personal collections of members past and present. All were restored in vivid detail within the book’s pages, with accompanying stories written by York Regional Police Corporate Communications staff following two years of research and interviews. Hundreds of historic newspaper editions, magazines, organizational reports and, perhaps most importantly, retired and working members, including the YRP Historical Committee, were consulted over that two-year period. The book also includes a foreword written by Eric Jolliffe, who served as the region’s chief of police from 2010 to 2020, and an afterword by current Chief Jim MacSween.

Customers may also choose to pick up their books from one of three York Regional Police facilities listed below.
