York Regional Police is pleased to announce that, in collaboration with Fractal SaaS, Inc., a portfolio company of Ryerson’s Digital Media Zone (The DMZ), a new, innovative mobile application has been launched that continues our service’s investment in the well-being of our 2,388 active members, 538 retirees and their families.

The Wellness First app is a first-responder-focused application for iOS and Android, designed to maintain user anonymity and privacy, while providing tailored support based on our four key areas of wellness: biological, psychological, spiritual and social.

The partnership between YRP and Fractal SaaS Inc. has resulted in a user-friendly design that calculates members’ areas of need based on their answers to a series of questions. It then connects members to helpful content and resources, as well as external professional contacts and in-house peer-support.

As the wellness of police members and their families has come into sharper focus in recent years, YRP has moved to ensure that our internal response keeps pace with the growing needs of the membership, particularly with regards to mental health.

“The frequency with which our members are confronted with occupational stress reinforces our duty to have a comprehensive and effective system in place to ensure that our members do not struggle in silence,” said Deputy Chief Paulo Da Silva. “This application is a way to improve accessibility and gives our members access to private and timely resources.”

The app’s design is based on YRP member surveys, research and pilot study results and aligns with the YRP Wellness Strategy goals, including reducing stigma, raising awareness among members and ensuring they can easily access effective services available to them.
