Woman sexually assaulted on pedestrian bridge in Richmond Hill

Victim in her 20s began to scream before suspect fled on foot toward Weldrick Road

Investigators with the York Regional Police Special Victims Unit – Sexual Assault Section are seeking a suspect and witnesses following a sexual assault in Richmond Hill.

On Jan. 25 at around 8:45 p.m., an adult woman in her 20s was walking across the pedestrian bridge between Nightstar Drive and Weldrick Road, when an unknown male suspect approached her and sexually assaulted her, police said.

The victim began to scream and the suspect fled on foot toward Weldrick Road, police said in a news release. 

Officers searched the area but were unable to locate the suspect. 

Investigators are urging anyone with information to come forward. 

The suspect is described as: male, white; age 20 to 30, 5 feet 10 inches, thin build; full beard, brown; and wearing a black tuque, black pants and a black jacket.
