On Thursday, Sept. 6, 2018 at approximately 1:43 p.m., West Grey Police attended the Welbeck Sawmill to investigate reports of fraudulent transactions that began Aug. 31, 2018. Over the course of a few days, the accused had successfully purchased $24,343 worth of tools using a fraudulently obtained credit card.

Through investigation, police were able to establish that the stolen goods were now in York Region. West Grey Police partnered with the York Regional Police Service and commenced an operation where an undercover officer arranged a purchase of the stolen goods. Once confirming that these were, in fact, the items stolen, police arrested the seller.

Subsequent to the investigation, a 27-year-old male from Ajax was charged with one count of possession of stolen property over $5,000 and one count of possession of stolen property under $5,000. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Newmarket on Oct. 25, 2018.
