VIDEO: Police look for suspect in retirement home theft investigation

The suspect obtained $850 in cash from one of the victims

Investigators with the York Regional Police #2 District Criminal Investigations Bureau are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect following break and enters into rooms at retirement homes and thefts from senior citizens in the town of Richmond Hill.

On Monday, July 30, 2018 at approximately 12:30 p.m., a female suspect entered a retirement home on Elgin Mills Road East, just east of Bayview Avenue. The suspect was caught on camera entering and attempting to conceal her face as she passed the cameras. The suspect entered at least three rooms and in one room she removed $95 in cash from the victim’s wallet while he lay in bed nearby, believing that she was a staff member.

On Saturday, Aug. 18, 2018, at approximately 3 p.m., the same suspect entered a separate retirement home on Elgin Mills Road East, just east of Yonge Street. The suspect entered at least five private suites posing as a staff member. The suspect walked in, making an excuse for why she was there, before going through the victim’s belongings. The suspect obtained $850 in cash from one of the victims.

None of the victims were physically injured during the incident.

Investigators are releasing video surveillance and images of the suspect and are appealing for anyone that may be able to identify the suspect to please come forward.

Suspect description:

  • Female, white
  • approximately 30 years
  • Thin build
  • Long, wavy brown hair
  • Wearing glasses
