Victim flees in car following shooting in Richmond Hill

Investigators with the York Regional Police #2 District Criminal Investigations Bureau are seeking suspects and witnesses following a shooting that occurred in the City of Richmond Hill.

On Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2020, at approximately 10 p.m., officers responded to a residence on Kerrybrook Drive, which is in the area of Bathurst Street and Major Mackenzie Drive West for a report of a man in a backyard who was suffering from injuries. When officers arrived they found a black Audi S7 with bullet holes in it and located the victim, a 39-year-old man from the City of Vaughan, who was injured, but was not shot. He was taken to hospital for treatment of his non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators believe that an altercation occurred between suspects and the victim, who were in their vehicles in the area of Leisure Lane and Richmond Street. Shots were fired and the victim fled in his vehicle while being followed by the suspects. The victim’s vehicle left the roadway on Kerrybrook Drive, striking a parked car. The victim got out of his vehicle and fled to a nearby backyard, followed by two suspects, where he was found by a concerned citizen.

Officers are asking any witnesses who may have been in the area at the time who have not yet spoken to police to please come forward. Investigators are also seeking any video surveillance from the area or anyone that may have captured dashcam video on the roadways in the area of any of the incidents.

York Regional Police is asking residents and business owners in our community to partner with us in community safety by signing up for the new Security Camera Registry. The Security Camera Registry gives members of the community the option to let York Regional Police know they have installed residential or commercial security cameras, which may assist police if a crime later occurs in that area.

With just a couple of clicks, you can make your neighbourhood a safer place. Participants can visit here and complete the brief online registration form to add their cameras to the registry. Upon completing the form, participants will also be asked to verify their email address in order to complete the registration.
